Not only is it bad for health, smoking is one of the worst stainers around -- causing your teeth to turn brown, and your fingernails yellow. These brown stains are caused by nicotine and can be difficult to remove by brushing alone.

Minimize staining: Of course, the best way to stop cigarette stain is to quit smoking. If you're still lighting up, however, try munching on a piece of sugarless gum after you've had your cigarette. This triggers saliva, which helps swish away the darkening liquids and reduce their chance of staining your teeth.
