Pelvic Pain. The most common symptom of endometriosis, the disabling pain often correlates to the menstrual cycle, but a woman with endometriosis may also experience pain that doesn’t correlate to her cycle.
Tissue Scarring. Endometriosis can also cause scar tissue and adhesions to develop that can distort a woman’s internal anatomy. In advanced stages, internal organs may fuse together, causing a condition known as a "frozen pelvis."
Infertility. Another adverse effect of endometriosis, it is estimated that 30-40% of women with endometriosis are infertile.
General symptoms:
- Chronic pain, mostly in the abdomen, lower back and pelvic areas.
- Extremely painful menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea).
- Heavy menstrual flow (menorrhagia).
- Premenstrual bleeding or spotting between periods (metrorrhagia).
- Painful bowel movements or urination during menstruation.
- Pain during or after sex (dyspareunia).
- Infertility.
