    Whether mashed or roasted, potatoes are a Christmas staple. Potatoes are very low in fat, and contain energy-giving carbohydrate, fibre as well as and plenty of other important vitamins and minerals including vitamins B and C, potassium, iron and copper. To keep mashed potatoes low-fat, serve with reduced fat milk or cream.

  • 5. Brussel Sprouts
    Brussels sprouts are not only a part of traditional Christmas fare, they are also contain many beneficial phytochemicals – substances which may help protect against heart disease and cancer – and are a good source of folate, vitamin C and iron.

  • 6. Salad
    Bulk up wour meals with an extra generous serving of salads and vegetables. As a general guide, dieticians recommend filling 3/4 of your plate with a variety of veggies and 1/4 with meat. The high fibre content of vegetables are filling, so they help to satisfy your appetite for longer.
