Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy, is becoming a popular procedure to sculpt the body cosmetically. Liposuction removes fat deposits from under the skin using a vacuum-suction canula, a hollow pen-like instrument, or using an ultrasonic probe that emulsifies the fat which is then removed via suction.

It can be performed on one or more sites on the same day. Common liposuction sites include the hips, thighs, abdomen, buttocks, back, arms, calves, face, cheeks and neck.
