Fall 2011 Beauty Trends: Wine-Stained Lips

Notice-me lips are trending this Fall. Just in time for the year-end festive parties! Try this modified red-lip look, spotted at Carolina Herrera's Fall/Winter 2011 fashion show.

It's low-maintenance compared to the classic red pout -- so you can go with lesser or no touch-ups throughout the evening. And "it's fresher this season," says makeup artist Diane Kendal of the "perfectly stained" lips.

Kendal used a sophisticated raisin lip color (M.A.C. lipstick in Prince Noir) to fill in and plump the lips. Then to create the soft wine-stained effect, excess pigment was blotted off with tissue paper.

To make lipstick last longer, prep bare lips with a thin layer of foundation. Then line and fill in your whole mouth with a neutral lip pencil before applying lipstick.

Offset wine-stained lips with classic and clean eyes lined with a thin sweep of black cream liner and subtle flushed cheeks -- as Kendal did -- for a contemporary, elegant look.
